How to install an eSIM on your phone
Two quick recipes — one for iPhone, one for Android — plus a little troubleshooting at the end.
How to do it on iPhone
Open Settings
Scroll down to Cellular. On older iOS: Mobile Data.
Tap “Add eSIM”
At the very bottom. Or “Add Cellular Plan”.
Choose “Use QR Code”
Point the phone at the QR code on the My eSIMs page. Or choose “Enter Details Manually” and paste the LPA code.
Follow the wizard
Apple walks you through it. Name the line e.g. “Turkey March 2026” — easy to tell apart later.
Choose default usage
Keep your main line for calls/SMS. Select the eSIM line for data while you're away.
Turn off roaming on your main line
Cellular → your main line → switch OFF “Data Roaming”. Saves you from expensive surprises.
How to do it on Android
Menu names vary between manufacturers (Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus). Search for “eSIM” in settings if you can't find it.
Open Settings
Network & internet (or “Connections” on Samsung). Search for “eSIM” if you can't find it.
Tap “Download SIM”
Or “Add SIM” → eSIM. A plus icon on Pixel/OnePlus.
Scan the QR code
Choose “Scan QR” from the My eSIMs page. Or use the manual activation code.
Confirm the eSIM for data
Set the active eSIM as your data connection while you're away.
Turn off roaming on your main line
Your main SIM's settings → turn off “Data roaming”. Protects you from expensive surprises.
Troubleshooting
The eSIM won't activate
Wait 1-2 minutes after you land. Toggle airplane mode off and on. Restart the phone if needed.
No signal
Check that the right line is selected for data, and that roaming is ON for the eSIM line.
The QR code won't scan
Use “Enter Details Manually”. You'll find the SM-DP+ address and activation code in your receipt.
I lost my QR code
